EXPAND THE EVIDENCE BASE
Conduct research on priority focus areas (as outlined below) to establish a strong evidence base for policy-making. Research in these areas will be multi-sectoral in nature, and with a strong focus on prevention.
Focus on building capacity in environmental health research through –
- Short courses and degree programs – Develop short courses on each of its focus areas, targeting health system workers, public health and medical professionals, and students. PHFI, in collaboration with TISS will be developing a Masters in Public Health with a focus on Environmental Health
- Research Grants – Provide funding for Thesis Fellowships and Research Development Grants for students and early career researchers, as well as opportunities for Exchange Scholars.
ESTABLISH A NETWORK OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH INSTITUTIONS IN INDIA
Bring together specialists from across India and serve as a platform for debates and discussions on emerging environmental health issues.
Organise high-level interactions on research and policy with key stakeholders to inform policy development through focussed and constructive dialogue; develop and disseminate programme and policy-relevant briefs.
Engage in impactful community-based participatory research and intervention methods across its programmes; work with community based organizations and increase awareness amongst this stakeholder group to ensure effective outcomes of the Center’s activities.
